Champions of Coastal Resilience is a climate science education program with a solution-oriented approach.
We combine place-based science with real-world problem solving and innovative use of technology to care for coastal communities in Hawaiʻi and beyond. We welcome everyone to join us!
What is Coastal Resilience?
Resilience is the capacity to anticipate and plan for change, resist damage, rapidly recover, and adapt to changing conditions. As our climate changes, sea level rise and intensified storms present new challenges and an urgency for innovative approaches to Coastal Resilience.
We believe an essential part of the solution is empowering youth to become Champions of Coastal Resilience.
The CCR Approach
Coastal Field Ecology
Investigate coastal ecosystems, human coastal land use, and levels of biodiversity and ecological balance.
Climate Science
Analyze climate science data and evidence of increasing coastal impacts. Model potential impacts of sea level rise and storm hazards.
Taking Action
Analyze coastal resilience strategies. Participate in coastal field study, citizen science, and stewardship. Produce an impactful CCR Story.
Program Highlights
Join Us
After launching CCR on the Island of Molokai in 2019, our initiative has spread across the Hawaiian Islands. Our foundation is the cultivation of partners in the science, conservation, culture, community planning, and education communities.
We look forward to building partnerships in any interested coastal community, in Hawaiʻi and beyond.
